Dry Substrate Guide
Supplies You'll Need
Included in Your Order:
• 850g Coco coir
• 400g Vermiculite
• 200g Gypsum
Not Included:
• 5 Gallon bucket with lid
• Large mixing spoon
• 56 qt Monotub or (2) XL grow bags
• 4-6 lbs of colonized grain spawn
Step 1: Prepare the Substrate
1. Wipe down the 5 gallon bucket with 70% isopropyl alcohol or clean with soap and water.
2. Pour all coco coir, vermiculite, and gypsum into the bucket and mix.
Step 2: Hydrate the Substrate
1. Set 14 cups of water to boil (3.5 quarts).
2. Carefully pour the boiling water into the bucket over the dry ingredients.
3. Mix up the substrate and cover the bucket with a lid.
Step 3: Let the Substrate Cook
1. Let the bucket sit for 90 minutes and mix again.
2. Replace the lid and let it sit until the substrate is completely cool at room temperature.
Step 4: Ready to Use!
1. Once cooled combine with colonized grain spawn inside a monotub or grow bags.
- If you're using a monotub, make sure it's at least 56 quarts. Add all the substrate and combine with 4-6 lbs of colonized grain spawn.
- If you're using grow bags, split the substrate into two XL bags and combine with 2-3 lbs of colonized grain spawn in each bag.
