Step 1: Sanitize your work area

Open tab

This step is crucial, as any amount of mold or bacteria can contaminate your grow.

1. Turn off any fans, air conditioners, or heaters in the room.

2. Thoroughly wash your hands before putting on gloves.

3. Clean your hands and workstation with 70% isopropyl alcohol.

4. (Recommended) Perform the following step inside a still air box or in front of a flow hood.

Step 2: Inoculate your grain bag

Open tab

1. Gently tap your grain bag on your work surface so the grain settles back together.

2. Sanitize the injection port with the included alcohol wipe.

3. Attach the sterile needle to your syringe. If necessary, flame-sterilize the needle and allow it to cool

4. Carefully insert the needle into the injection port and inoculate the bag with 10-20 ml of liquid culture or spore solution.

If you're using liquid culture, shake the bag thoroughly to evenly distribute the liquid.

If you're using spores, aim to inject all the liquid in a single spot. Do not shake the bag.

4. Store the grain bag in an area out of direct sunlight and off the ground, at a temperature range of 72-82 degrees Fahrenheit. Note that a temperature in the high 70s to low 80s results in the fastest colonization.

Step 3: Break and shake once its 20% colonized

Open tab

Once your bag is partially colonized, redistributing the grains will speed up the colonization process.

1. Carefully break apart the colonized sections of the grain bag.

2. Shake the bag until the mycelium is evenly distributed.

3. Place the bag under the same conditions as before. Allow the grains to colonize for an additional 1-2 weeks.

Step 4: Mix your spawn and substrate

Open tab

Once your grain bag is fully colonized, it's time setup the fruiting bag

1. Repeat the steps outlined in "SANITIZE YOUR WORK AREA" to minimize the risk of contamination.

2. Break up your colonized grain spawn by firmly pressing it against a flat surface. Break up all the chunks and mix the bag thoroughly.

4. Cut open the top of both the grain and substrate bags. Transfer your broken-up colonized grain into the substrate bag.

5. Seal the top of the bag with the included clip and shake it to mix the grain and substrate thoroughly.

6. Once mixed, tap the bag against a flat surface to level the top of the mixture.

7. Place the bag off the ground, away from direct sunlight, and at room temperature.

8. Allow the substrate to colonize for an additional 5-7 before initiating fruiting conditions.

Step 5: Fruiting stage

Open tab

Once your grow kit is fully colonized it's time to introduce fruiting conditions.

1. Remove the bag clip to unseal the bag

2. Introduce airflow by gently pushing and pulling the sides of the bag.

3. Reattach the bag clip and place the bag in an area with airflow and indirect sunlight. If using grow lights, opt for 6500k bulbs set to a 12/12 hour cycle timer.

3. Your fruiting bag will begin to pin in about 5-7 days; after that, expect fully grown mushrooms within 3-5 days.

Step 6: Harvest mushrooms!

Open tab

The best time to harvest your mushrooms is once the cap begins to open and the veil tears.

1. Unseal the bag and carefully slide the grow kit and mushrooms out

2. Harvest your mushrooms by lightly twisting and pulling them at the base of the stems.

3. (Recommended) Dry your mushrooms using a dehydrator.

4. Store your dried mushrooms in an airtight container with a silica gel pack.

For Multiple Harvests: Repeat steps 4 and 5 for up to two more flushes!
